Accreditation

The ATL performs sound power level determinations in accordance with US and international standards ANSI S12.54 and ISO 3744 as well as measurement of emission sound pressure levels at operator and other specified positions in accordance with ISO 11201, which the ATL utilizes to verify compliance with Pressurized Payload noise emission requirements in accordance with the criteria outlined in NASA Document SSP57000. The ATL is the only laboratory within NASA to conduct acoustic emissions verification testing in accordance with ISO 11201.

In March, 2003, the ATL was awarded NVLAP accreditation for sound power level determinations in accordance with ANSI S12.54 and ISO 3744, and added ISO 11201 to its scope of accreditation in December, 2004. Accreditation was maintained through March, 2007, when, as a result of a reduction in staff and changes in NASA's programmatic focus, the ATL voluntarily suspended its accreditation.
