NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) maintains a database of materials
that have been tested for suitability for use in on-orbit environments. Acoustical
materials that are being considered for payload applications must be flight
qualified. Ratings of a particular candidate material may be checked in MSFC's
MAPTIS database.
To access the Marshall Space Flight Center Materials Database (MAPTIS-II):
- Go to
http://maptis.nasa.gov
- Setup a new account by clicking on "Application for Access"
- Complete the online application form
- The application will be processed and the user notified in 1-2 days
- One you receive your password, click on "MAPTIS-II Sign In" on the above website and follow the on-line instructions
If you have any questions or difficult accessing

A list of fans that have been approved for use in spaceflight hardware has been developed by
Eric Phillips for the
Acoustics
Office at NASA Johnson Space Center. The ATL has a fan
test plenum
and the experimental capability of characterizing
the performance and noise emissions of cooling fans for space flight
applications.
