Flight Materials Database

NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) maintains a database of materials that have been tested for suitability for use in on-orbit environments. Acoustical materials that are being considered for payload applications must be flight qualified. Ratings of a particular candidate material may be checked in MSFC's MAPTIS database.

To access the Marshall Space Flight Center Materials Database (MAPTIS-II):
  1. Go to External  http://maptis.nasa.gov
  2. Setup a new account by clicking on "Application for Access"
  3. Complete the online application form
  4. The application will be processed and the user notified in 1-2 days
  5. One you receive your password, click on "MAPTIS-II Sign In" on the above website and follow the on-line instructions

If you have any questions or difficult accessing the website, please contact: External  Ms. Linda Huber at (256) 544-4889.

A list of fans that have been approved for use in spaceflight hardware has been developed by External  Eric Phillips for the
External Acoustics Office at NASA Johnson Space Center. The ATL has a fan test plenum and the experimental capability of characterizing the performance and noise emissions of cooling fans for space flight applications.
